Dr. Relly Nadler: We are always excited to bring you new information and new cutting-edge tools that you can use for yourself to be a star performer and also for the teams that you lead.
If you have been listening to us for this last year you know that we have been focusing on what top performers do in the moment to be a top performer and how they zero in on what we are calling Emotional Brilliance, the title of our new book.
So, things like, what kind of emotions to these top performers bring to the experience? How do they gear themselves up for top performance? How can we get better at understanding what these emotions are and how to use them? What brings up and emotional brilliance performance? What emotions are most challenging?
Our goal here is to help you expand, improve, and select the best emotional competencies and strengths to master the moment. Everything happens in the moment. We’ve been talking a lot about emotional intelligence over the years. Emotional brilliance zeros in so it’s almost like if emotional intelligence is the territory on your Google map, emotional brilliance is zooming in on your home.
If emotional intelligence is all the clothes in your closet and you have that big presentation that you need to do, emotional brilliance is your go-to clothes for that moment.
We are doing some research on emotional brilliance and on the website, Voice America, there is an emotional brilliance survey banner that you can click on. We would love to get your feedback.
We have a really exciting show that we are going to bring to you about the crisis of Hurricane Harvey and a Chief Operating Officer, Rob Marmerstein, and will tell you a little bit more about him before we bring him on, how he handled that situation. We will see if we can glean out some of the emotional brilliant moments.
Dr. Cathy Greenberg: I’m excited to talk with Rob. What an experience that he is going to share with us that is going to really truly create not only the mindset for our audience but an opportunity to share an amazing experience. I was actually one of those people that got out Florida just in time for Erma and then came back to quite a mess, so I’m very excited to hear from Rob.
Dr. Relly Nadler: I’d like to introduce Rob. I met Rob, and Cathy like you were saying, we have been working with physician burn-out and Rob is the COO of the Kingwood Hospital. We were doing a program with him and aside from having a really exciting background, just what he went through to me highlighted what we are calling emotional brilliance.
Rob will share some of the information about how he managed his staff and patient emotions during the 2017 Hurricane Harvey. As I understand it, we’ll get more information from him, there were 500 people that were stranded at the hospital, both staff and patients. We’ll get all the specifics from him.
Rob joined the HCA Houston Healthcare at Kingwood as COO in January 2017. It wasn’t very much after he was there that the hurricane came in. He’s also served as a COO at other places, the HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland, he’s held various other progressive leadership roles joining HCA Healthcare in 2008. He has been doing this for a long time.
He transitioned into healthcare. He had a career working the hospitality industry. He’s very well-respected there at the hospital. It was great to have him be a part of what we were doing there.
